Snow Leopards Share a Mountain Ridge

Usually a male cat’s range will include that of one or more females, but the ranges of more than one male may overlap. You may recognize the photo of “Mikmar” on the left. We use it on the Snow Leopard Conservancy homepage. It shows a snow leopard the way we like to think about them: wild and free at the top of the world. The snow leopard in the right-hand photo is HNP–3. The name means Hemis National Park, number 3. The photo was taken in the same spot (the 13,000 foot Karlung Ridge in Ladakh, India), but it was taken at another time. Did you notice that there is less snow on the ground?
